Field Profitability and Marginality Webtool
All participants are eligible to receive results from their data that may help for record comparison and/or management decisions. An exciting new version of a Field Profitability and Marginality webtool that analyzes profitability and identifies marginal acres using the producers' own data has been developed and is currently being distributed to our current participants. Watch the video or read through the text instructions, then click the Webtool Demo button to try it out!

These files are converted from the data the participant has provided. If you farmed wheat or canola on a field then you will be able to use the tool for that field. The other commodities have not been completed for the tool yet.

-
Step 1: If you were a participant you would receive your files back in the form of .tiff files that would be saved to your computer. You would then go the provided website and select "Click Here to Select Field" and you would choose your field to look at. For the demonstration, go to the demo site above and select "Load Test Data". It will load up a map. When it first loads it will be a big purple blob, that’s normal!
-
Step 2: On the left hand side you can change the expenses and the crop prices to see the changes in profitability. You’ll notice that the numbers on the right-hand side will change as you change the numbers.
-
Step 3: Note any pink/ purple areas that indicate the low-producing areas.
-
Step 4: If these were your own files you would be able to compare this map to your own observations/ records to see if the tool is correctly identifying those areas. (So far we have had a 100% success rate).
-
Step 5: You can activate the polygon tool to select areas on the map and create polygons. You will need to click on the page after you draw each line.
-
Step 6: You can add the land location and any other notes you want and create a pdf.
If these were your own files you would now be ready to use this information for further management decisions such as identifying areas for conversion to forage, further soil testing/ variable rate application, or any other tool that suits your operation!
